Ingredients

Main
  • 3 ripe bananas the riper, the better for sweetness
  • 1/3 cup melted butter adds moisture and richness
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda helps the bread rise
  • Pinch of salt enhances flavor
  • 3/4 cup sugar you can reduce this for less sweetness
  • 1 large egg binds the ingredients together
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract adds depth of flavor
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour the base of the bread

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Loaf pan
  • Oven
  • Rubber spatula

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking and a golden crust.
  2. Grease a loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until a chunky consistency remains.
  4. Add the melted butter to the mashed bananas and stir until well combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and all-purpose flour until evenly mixed.
  6. Stir the sugar, egg, and vanilla extract into the banana and butter mixture until smooth.
  7. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the banana bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added flavor, consider tossing in chopped nuts or chocolate chips before baking. Store cooled bread in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze individual slices for up to three months.
