Ingredients

Main
  • 4 slices of bread preferably thick-cut
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter for cooking

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Non-stick skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving plates

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt for about 1-2 minutes until well blended.
  2. Place your non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small pat of butter. Allow the butter to melt and heat up for about 1-2 minutes.
  3. One slice at a time, dip the bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated. Do not soak too long to prevent sogginess.
  4. Place the coated bread onto the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown, flipping with a spatula.
  5. Continue to cook remaining slices, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
  6. Once cooked, serve immediately with your favorite toppings such as syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.
  7. Enjoy your homemade French toast!

Notes

Use day-old bread for best absorption. You can substitute with brioche or sourdough for extra flavor. For vegan version, replace eggs with a flax egg (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed + 3 tablespoons water).
