Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups Bisquick mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs like parsley or thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Wooden spoon or spatula

Method

  1. Begin by heating your choice of broth in a large pot over medium heat until it reaches a gentle boil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the Bisquick mix, milk, and chopped fresh herbs, stirring until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the dumplings tender.
  3. Season the dumpling mixture by adding black pepper, if desired, and stir briefly to incorporate.
  4. Ensure the broth is at a gentle boil, then use a spoon to drop heaping tablespoons of the dumpling mixture into the pot.
  5. Cover the pot and let the dumplings steam for 10 to 12 minutes without lifting the lid to retain steam.
  6. After 10 minutes, remove the lid and check that the dumplings are cooked through; they should be fluffy and springy to the touch.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the dumplings from the broth and serve immediately alongside your favorite soup or stew.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding garlic powder or onion powder to the dumpling dough.
