  • 2 pounds live blue crabs
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

  • Slotted spoon

Method
 

  1. Begin by cleaning the blue crabs under cold water to remove dirt or debris, ensuring a fresh flavor.
  2. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil.
  3. Carefully add the live crabs to the boiling water and cover the pot. Boil for 10 minutes.
  4. After 10 minutes, add garlic, Old Bay seasoning, and red pepper flakes to the boiling water. Continue boiling for another 10 minutes until crabs turn bright orange.
  5. While crabs are boiling, melt butter with olive oil in another pan over medium heat.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the crabs from the boiling water and let drain.
  7. Drizzle the melted butter mixture over the crabs then squeeze fresh lemon juice and garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

Make sure to have plenty of napkins on hand; enjoying blue crabs can get a little messy, but that’s half the fun!
