Ingredients

Main
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Food coloring optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small cookie cutter or piping bag

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, about 2 minutes.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat until fully incorporated and smooth, about 3 minutes.
  3. Mix in the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract until smooth, about 1 minute.
  4. If the mixture is too sticky, add additional powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it becomes moldable.
  5. Divide the mixture if using multiple colors and stir in desired food coloring until evenly tinted.
  6. Roll the mixture into small 1-inch balls or press into shapes using a cookie cutter or piping bag.
  7. Place the shaped mints on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or until firm.
  8. Remove mints from the refrigerator and serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

Always taste a small amount of everything as you go to adjust sweetness and flavor to your liking.
