Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips optional

Equipment

  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Cookie scoop or spoon
  • Wire rack for cooling

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add eggs one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in chocolate chips or any other mix-ins of choice.
  7. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing evenly.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on wire racks for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For softer cookies, take them out when still slightly underbaked. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes enhances thickness. Feel free to customize with different mix-ins or flavorings.
