Ingredients

Main
  • 1 pound Canadian bacon
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil optional
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar for a touch of sweetness
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika for a smoky flavor

Equipment

  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Meat thermometer
  • Tongs
  • Plate lined with paper towels

Method

  1. Remove the Canadian bacon slices from the packaging and ensure they are evenly cut for uniform cooking.
  2. Place a skillet over medium heat and allow it to warm up for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add vegetable oil to the skillet if using, and swirl to coat the pan.
  4. Sprinkle the brown sugar, black pepper, and smoked paprika evenly over the bacon slices.
  5. Arrange the bacon slices in a single layer in the hot skillet, avoiding overcrowding.
  6. Cook each side for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and slightly crispy.
  7. Check that the internal temperature of the bacon reaches at least 145°F using a meat thermometer.
  8. Transfer the cooked bacon to a plate lined with paper towels using tongs and let it rest for a few minutes.

Notes

Serve in a breakfast sandwich with eggs and cheese, on top of pizza, or alongside pancakes. Leftovers freeze well for future meals.
