Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly grease it.
- Arrange the 40 saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring frequently until the mixture reaches a gentle boil.
- Pour the boiling toffee mixture evenly over the saltine crackers and spread it to coat all pieces.
- Bake for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee; let stand for 2 minutes to melt.
- Spread the melted chocolate with a spatula and sprinkle chopped nuts on top if using, then let cool completely before breaking into pieces.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for up to three months. Let cool completely before storing.
