- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
- Drain the cooked spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Pour in diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir and cook for 5 minutes, allowing flavors to blend.
- Add thyme, soy sauce, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir well and simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the noodles evenly with the sauce.
- If using, stir in cooked protein and heat through, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let sit for 2 minutes to absorb seasonings before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, use fresh garlic and herbs. Letting the dish rest briefly enhances the flavors.
