  • 8 slices of bread white, whole grain, or your choice
  • 6 ounces of sliced ham your favorite deli style
  • 4 slices of cheese Swiss, cheddar, or your preference
  • 1 cup of lettuce washed and dried
  • 2 tablespoons of mustard or mayonnaise for a creamier version
  • 1 medium tomato sliced, optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste optional

Method
 

  1. Start by choosing your favorite bread.
  2. Using a butter knife, spread mustard evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  3. Place sliced ham evenly over the mustard-spread side of half the bread slices.
  4. Top the ham with cheese slices and let sit for a minute if you prefer slightly softened cheese.
  5. Add a layer of lettuce and tomato slices on top of the cheese.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste if desired.
  7. Close each sandwich with the remaining bread slice, mustard side down, and gently press to combine.
  8. Cut the sandwiches diagonally and serve immediately.
