Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Flour sifter
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin
  • Pastry cutter or knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  4. Cut in 1/4 cup cold, cubed unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Pour in 3/4 cup milk and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, gently knead a few times, and roll out to 1-inch thickness.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out 8 biscuits and place them about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, keep the ingredients cold, work quickly, and avoid overworking the dough.
