Method
- Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
- Add 1/4 cup all-purpose flour to the hot oil and whisk constantly to form a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in 2 cups chicken broth while whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, whisking to combine.
- Continue cooking over medium heat, stirring frequently, for 5-7 minutes or until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
- If the gravy is too thick, add additional chicken broth, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your preferred thickness.
- Stir in 1/4 teaspoon soy sauce, if using, and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning if necessary, then serve warm over your favorite dishes.
Notes
Store leftover gravy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove over low heat, adding a splash of broth if needed to thin.
