- Wash and quarter the red potatoes to ensure even cooking.
- Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes in a colander to remove all excess water.
- Return potatoes to the pot or a mixing bowl and mash with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
- Stir in the unsalted butter and milk while the potatoes are still warm until fully incorporated.
- Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh rosemary or chives if desired.
Notes
For even creamier potatoes, warm the milk before adding it to the mash.
