Ingredients

Main
  • 2 pounds red potatoes washed and quartered
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: fresh rosemary or chives for garnish

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Colander
  • Potato masher or ricer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  1. Wash and quarter the red potatoes to ensure even cooking.
  2. Place the potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Drain the potatoes in a colander to remove all excess water.
  5. Return potatoes to the pot or a mixing bowl and mash with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
  6. Stir in the unsalted butter and milk while the potatoes are still warm until fully incorporated.
  7. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
  8. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh rosemary or chives if desired.

Notes

For even creamier potatoes, warm the milk before adding it to the mash.
