- Fill a large pot with water, add a generous amount of salt, and bring to a boil.
- Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8–10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat and sauté garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in diced tomatoes and red pepper flakes, then cook for 5–7 minutes until the tomatoes break down into a sauce.
- Season the sauce with salt to taste.
- Reserve 1 cup of pasta cooking water, then drain the pasta.
- Add the drained pasta to the sauce, tossing to combine and adding reserved pasta water as needed to adjust consistency.
- Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
