Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups leftover mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese cheddar or mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Deep frying pan or pot
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Ensure mashed potatoes are cool and creamy to prevent falling apart during frying.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine mashed potatoes, shredded cheese, flour, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper; mix thoroughly.
  3. Form the mixture into about a tablespoon-sized ball, packing tightly.
  4. Heat oil over medium-high heat in a deep frying pan or pot until a small drop sizzles.
  5. Carefully fry the balls in hot oil, about 4-5 balls at a time, until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve warm while cheese is still gooey.

Notes

For extra flavor, add herbs such as parsley or paprika into the mixture or try baking instead of frying at 400°F for 15-20 minutes.
