Ingredients

  • 500 g bread flour
  • 350 ml warm water
  • 10 g salt
  • 7 g instant yeast

  • Wooden spoon or dough whisk
  • Kitchen scale
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife or lame for scoring
  • Spray bottle for water

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 500g bread flour, 7g instant yeast, and 10g salt.
  2. Pour in 350ml warm water and mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide into four equal pieces, and shape each into a baguette.
  6. Place the shaped baguettes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. During the second rise, preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  8. Score the tops of the baguettes with a sharp knife and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Notes

For an extra crispy crust, place a pan with ice cubes on the oven floor when baking.
