Ingredients

Main
  • 2 pounds small new potatoes or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Water to cover the potatoes
  • Butter or olive oil for serving, optional
  • Fresh herbs for garnish like parsley or dill, optional

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Colander
  • Potato peeler
  • Slotted spoon or spatula

Method

  1. Select small new potatoes or Yukon Gold potatoes for the best texture.
  2. Rinse the potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt.
  3. If your potatoes are large, cut them into uniform halves or quarters to ensure even cooking.
  4. Fill a large pot with water and add salt, then bring it to a rolling boil.
  5. Carefully add the potatoes to the boiling water to prevent the temperature from dropping too much.
  6. Let the potatoes boil for 15-20 minutes or until fork-tender.
  7. Drain the potatoes in a colander to remove excess moisture.
  8. Transfer the potatoes back to the pot, add butter or olive oil if desired, toss gently to coat, and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add herbs or garlic while the potatoes boil.
