Ingredients

Main
  • 8 slices brioche bread ideally a day or two old for better texture
  • 1 cup milk any kind works, but whole milk adds richness
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter for frying and flavor
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar optional, for a sweet finish

Equipment

  • Flat skillet or griddle
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 4 large eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Preheat a flat skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  3. Dunk each slice of brioche bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon butter to the skillet and let it melt completely.
  5. Place soaked slices in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. If making multiple batches, keep cooked French toast warm in a low oven while you finish cooking the rest.
  7. Serve the French toast hot with a drizzle of maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
  8. Gather your loved ones and enjoy the delightful breakfast together.

Notes

Use slightly stale brioche for the best texture; it soaks up the egg mixture without falling apart.
