Method
- Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, about 5 minutes.
- Add 2 tablespoons loose black tea (or 2 tea bags) to the boiling water, then remove from heat and steep for 3–5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, combine 1/4 cup brown sugar and 2 tablespoons water in a small saucepan; cook over medium heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves and the syrup thickens, about 2 minutes.
- Add 1 cup whole milk (or milk alternative) to the steeped tea and stir to combine.
- Pour the brown sugar syrup into the milk tea and stir well.
- Pour into serving glasses over ice cubes if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
Use less milk for a stronger tea flavor or more for creamier texture; serve over ice for an iced version and adjust sweetness to taste.
