Main
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 1 apple sliced
  • 3 to 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon whole nutmeg or 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: pine sprigs or seasonal herbs

Equipment

  • Medium pot
  • Stovetop or slow cooker
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment, allowing approximately 5 minutes for prep.
  2. Slice the orange and apple into thin rounds, taking about 2 minutes to complete.
  3. Place 2 cups of water in a medium pot and add sliced fruit, cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir gently to combine, then set the pot over low heat (gentle simmer around 180°F).
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 3 hours (180 minutes), adding water periodically to maintain the liquid level.
  6. During simmering, adjust the aroma by adding extra fruit slices or spices as desired.
  7. Monitor the heat to ensure the mixture stays at a gentle simmer and does not boil vigorously.
  8. After simmering, remove from heat and let cool before transferring leftovers to an airtight container for refrigeration.

Notes

Keep an eye on the water level to prevent the pot from drying out. Adjust fruits and spices to personalize the scent.
