Main
  • 1 pound fresh green beans trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Colander
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Trim the ends of 1 pound fresh green beans to prepare for cooking.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a rolling boil and blanch the green beans for about 3 minutes.
  3. Drain the beans in a colander and immediately rinse with cold water to stop cooking and preserve crunch.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter until bubbly.
  5. Add 3 cloves minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, stirring constantly to avoid burning.
  6. Add the drained green beans to the skillet and toss to coat them in garlic butter.
  7. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes over the beans, then sauté for 5 more minutes.
  8. Remove the skillet from heat and drizzle with 1 tablespoon lemon juice before serving.
