- Step 1: Prepare the yeast. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F) and 1 tablespoon active dry yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Step 2: Mix dry ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until combined.
- Step 3: Combine wet ingredients. In another bowl, beat 2 large eggs, then stir in 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Step 4: Form the dough. Pour the yeast mixture and wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then turn onto a lightly floured surface.
- Step 5: Knead the dough. Knead by hand for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding flour as needed to prevent sticking.
- Step 6: First rise. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Step 7: Shape the loaf. Punch down the dough to release air, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Step 8: Second rise and bake. Let the dough rise for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for 30 minutes until golden brown.
- Step 9: Finish and rest. Remove from oven, brush the top with melted butter, and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra richness, brush the top with melted butter immediately after baking.
