Ingredients

Main
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer with dough hook (optional)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Pot for boiling
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Pour in the warm water gradually and mix until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on medium speed in a stand mixer for 5 minutes or by hand for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm area for 30 minutes.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into eight equal pieces, rolling each into a ball and shaping into a ring.
  6. Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently boil the bagels for 1 minute per side.
  7. Place boiled bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried garlic, dried onion, and coarse sea salt.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Let your bagels cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting to maintain their structure.
