Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to heat for at least 10 minutes. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed for 3 to 4 minutes until light, fluffy, and pale in color.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- Reduce mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until no streaks of flour remain.
- Remove the bowl from the mixer and fold in the chocolate chips or chunks by hand with a rubber spatula.
- Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough balls about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the centers still look slightly underbaked.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chill dough for at least 30 minutes before baking for thicker cookies and defined edges. Store cooled cookies in an airtight container with a slice of bread to maintain chewiness for up to 5 days.
