Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces premium silver tequila
  • 1 ounce triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • Kosher salt for rimming
  • Lime wheel for garnish
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring shot glass
  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Margarita glass or coupe
  • Citrus juicer
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Small plate for salt rim

Method

  1. Chill your margarita glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes to ensure it stays cold longer.
  2. Cut the lime in half and juice into a bowl, then juice half a lemon to yield 1 ounce of lime juice and 0.5 ounce of lemon juice.
  3. Pour 2 ounces of premium silver tequila into a cocktail shaker using a jigger for precise measurement.
  4. Add 1 ounce of triple sec or Cointreau to the shaker on top of the tequila.
  5. Add the fresh citrus juices (1 ounce lime and 0.5 ounce lemon) into the shaker.
  6. Fill the shaker about halfway with ice cubes to chill the drink properly.
  7. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker frosts.
  8. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the chilled glass and dip the rim into kosher salt to coat evenly.
  9. Strain the margarita into the prepared glass over fresh ice, garnish with a lime wheel, and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use fresh citrus and quality tequila, and serve immediately.
