Ingredients

Main
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Storage container

Method

  1. Gather all seasoning ingredients and measuring tools in a mixing bowl.
  2. Measure out 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon dried parsley, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon sea salt, and 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (optional).
  3. Combine the measured spices in the mixing bowl and whisk until evenly mixed.
  4. Taste a small pinch of the seasoning and adjust any spices to suit your preference.
  5. Transfer the seasoning blend to an airtight storage container. Store in a cool, dark place for up to three months.
  6. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels to ensure the seasoning sticks.
  7. Rub the seasoning generously over all sides of the salmon fillets.
  8. Cook salmon by grilling, baking, or pan-searing until it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C), about 10-12 minutes depending on thickness.
  9. For best flavor, let the seasoned salmon marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before cooking.

Notes

Use fresh spices for best flavor. Add cayenne pepper for heat or dried dill for a fresh twist. Mix larger batches and store in a spice jar for future use.
