Ingredients

Main
  • 1 lb flank steak sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 14 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Meat mallet (optional)

Method

  1. Slice the flank steak into thin strips against the grain to ensure tender bites.
  2. Drizzle olive oil in a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat for about 1 minute until shimmering.
  3. Add the steak strips in a single layer and sear for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the dried oregano and basil, stirring to combine.
  6. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and red chili flakes to taste.
  7. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to meld flavors.
  8. Remove from heat and let the steak rest for a few minutes, then serve garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

For the best texture, let the steak rest for a few minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute.
